GRAND STAIRCASE- ESCALANTE NATIONAL MONUMENT

Come explore the Utah desert where it is rumored 20 year old artist Everett Ruess disappeared in the fall of 1934. Ruess left home at 16 to explore the American Southwest. He was last heard from in Escalante where he wrote, "I enjoy beauty and the vagrant life I lead more keenly all the time. I prefer the saddle to the streetcar, and the star-sprinkled sky to the roof, the obscure and difficult trail leading into the unknown to the paved highway, and the deep peace of the wild to the discontent bred by cities."

The 1.9 million acres of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument was set aside as protected wilderness in the fall of 1996. The Monument is divided into three distinct areas; the Grand Staircase, the Kaiparowits Plateau and the Canyons of the Escalante.

REVIEWS

While Circle D is no Ritz it provides clean rooms, good comfortable beds, working fridge, micro, coffee maker and easy access to Escalate. The owner is friendly and very accommodating to your needs. Excellent price. I would highly recommend and have stay here with each of my three children as we explored GSC Escalate.

We spent one night in July 2018 and two nights in September 2019 exploring the Utah Red Rock country. The Circle D is an excellent base location to do that from. Lots of Scenic Byways, Scenic Backways and Hiking Trails easily accessible from Circle D. Dinners at the restaurant are a great way to end the day. The reasons are good food, a broad menu to choose from, and reasonably priced. The full room of patrons attests to the value.

Stayed at the Circle D Motel for 3 nights in June 2020. While it's an older property it has everything you need - microwave, fridge, large rooms and they have a fire pit for all to enjoy. The property also has a restaurant attached to it and is also in walking distance to other options in the town. The property has hiking books and maps to research the area and very friendly staff - and even all of the other guests were super friendly! I would definitely return.
